UnDam the UN!

Tell the United Nations: Dams = methane emissions,

displaced communities & extinction.

Dams ≠ Carbon offsets or climate solutions

The UN has already approved more than 2,000 hydroelectric projects as carbon offsets. This is unacceptable. Sign now to tell the UN and member nations: Dams don't belong in the Paris Agreement.

The Rivers for Climate Coalition

The Rivers for Climate Coalition (R4C) is a global alliance of organizations and individuals. Our mission is to safeguard the world’s rivers by advocating for international policies and financial mechanisms that prioritize ecological integrity, climate resilience, and community rights over the false solution of destructive hydropower.

The knowledge that free-flowing rivers offer a valuable climate solution is rarely spoken about at critical international decision-making events. Likewise, the advocacy for their protection, maintenance, and restoration is largely underrepresented. This reality is why R4C was created in 2021 when we launched our Rivers for Climate Declaration, and why we are seeking support for our 2025 UnDam the UN campaign to persuade the UN to stop recognizing hydroelectric development as clean energy.

Our Goals

  • Eliminate hydropower from international climate finance frameworks

  • Promote dam removal as a climate solution

  • Protect free-flowing rivers

  • Amplify Indigenous voices and uphold FPIC

  • Expose greenwashing in climate policy
